Eclipse Sconce - Wall Light
Lighting
Exploring the blend of Japanese and Greek styles to create a unique lighting experience.
Although Greek and Japanese cultures and art forms are vastly different, I believe they share similar spiritual and artistic pursuits. In this project, I have sought to combine elements from both Greek and Japanese cultures and art, creating a new experience that blends their similarities and contrasts.

Greek and Japan
Spiritual and artistic pursuits.
Greece: Stone
Feeling - Elegant, Hard, Cold, Smooth , Solid
Japan: Wood
Feeling - Nature, Soft, Warm, Textured, Comfortable

Greek temples are often built in the most prominent and highest locations, showing reverence for the gods, and the buildings are much larger than humans. - vertical and solemn, gigantic
Japanese architecture is low-slung because humans are a part of nature, and thus, buildings should not compete with the natural landscape. - horizontal, simple, order
Material
Architecture / Layout

Light plays a very important role in traditional Japanese and Greek architecture and art, but they have different ways of applying light.
Greece: Ancient architects resorted to various morphological solutions to capture the natural light and create the appropriate shadows and contrasts, highlighting key elements of the whole.
Japan: All life has meaning and value, as reflected in respect for nature. Strive to work in harmony with natural surroundings, rather than attempting to tame them.

Final Design

- Placing the lights on both sides to showcase the detials of the central part and emphasize the contours (dark & light)
Movable Light Source
The light can be removed from the back of lampshade - Enhance the user experience by imitating the action of ancient Greeks and Japanese who would remove torches from their stands to move the light source when necessary.
Form
Imitating Greek columns (shape-vertical-gigantic-stone) and Japanese architecture (shape-horizontal-smaller-wood)
