While traditional waste systems rely on signs, habits, and guesswork, this project explores how increasingly complex shared spaces call for clearer, more intuitive guidance. By integrating AI-driven, low-profile technology into the environment, it rethinks how people sort different kinds of waste across everyday contexts — while still being able to adapt to more specialized situations, such as the classification of medical disposables — helping build more consistent, sustainable habits over time by not only guiding decisions in the moment, but also teaching users what goes where.
Nova is a smart AI camera that transforms waste disposal into an intuitive, sustainable experience. Mounted on walls or ceilings, Nova uses real-time computer vision to recognize waste and guide users with a colour-coded light ring—eliminating confusion and signage clutter.
